State Team

John Lister

State Member for Werribee.

John Lister is a committed local who grew up in Werribee. He was school captain at MacKillop College, and has volunteered with many community groups.

As a former school teacher, John saw firsthand the pressures affecting local families in Werribee. With your support, he can now work to help the whole community.

Whether he is out on the truck as a volunteer firefighter or supporting paramedics and police, community safety is a priority for him. Labor has invested in more police for Wyndham and opened the largest police station and law courts outside of Melbourne’s CBD. Since he has been in Parliament, tough new bail laws have been introduced, machetes banned and weapons search powers expanded, alongside Adult Time for Violent Crime. As someone who has worked with young people as a teacher, John knows there also needs to be work done to turn people away from a life of crime. That’s why Labor has introduced the Violence Reduction Unit and will place early intervention officers in schools.

Every day, John uses the local transport network, and he knows what it’s like trying to move around Wyndham. Labor is delivering the Wyndham Ring Road, a link that will join communities from Werribee’s west across to Tarneit.  Labor has also delivered the West Gate Tunnel, reducing congestion and saving commuters time. New bus services for Werribee and Mambourin have also been brought online, alongside upgraded frequency on the busiest routes.

Labor has built seven new schools in the Werribee electorate and is upgrading many more. Schools have also received more funding for mental health support, while being helped to open up to more community groups. As someone who has taught in schools, John has seen firsthand how this investment makes a difference.

Keeping the growing community healthy is also important to him. Major upgrades have been made to the Werribee Mercy Hospital, but more still needs to be done. That’s why Labor is building a better Emergency Department and has opened the free Medicare Urgent Care Clinic.

Cost of living relief such as Free Kinder and free public transport for under 18s is making a big difference for local families. Slashing stamp duty from off-the-plan apartments and townhouses will help more people like John get into their own home.

John knows there is more work to do, and Labor has a real plan to support the growing community, deliver better healthcare, and support families with cost-of-living help that makes a real difference.

He is a lifelong local who will fight for the community on the issues that matter most: community safety, cost of living, health, schools and local roads.

John is your voice in Parliament, and it’s his honour to represent this amazing community.

Stay connected with John Lister.
