Delivering new and upgraded hospitals

We’re expanding world-class healthcare across Victoria by opening 11 new hospitals and training more doctors and nurses.
The Allan Labor Government is expanding world-class healthcare across Victoria by opening new 11 hospitals, upgrading 40 more, and training the doctors and nurses our health system needs. This is about making sure every Victorian can get high-quality care, when and where they need it.
The Allan Labor Government has delivered some of the biggest health infrastructure projects in Victoria’s history.
The new Frankston Hospital is now open, transforming care for the peninsula and beyond. It includes 15 new operating theatres, 130 additional beds, and expanded services in emergency care, mental health, oncology, and women’s and children’s health. It will treat 35,000 more patients every year, easing pressure on one of the state’s busiest emergency departments and helping deliver faster care.
In Melbourne’s west, the new Footscray Hospital is open too: delivering 500 beds, 16 operating theatres, and capacity for 15,000 additional patients and 20,000 more emergency presentations each year. It will also house Victoria’s first fully public pathology service, supporting faster diagnoses and better patient outcomes across the western suburbs.
World-class hospitals need world-class staff. That’s why Labor is training and supporting the health workforce, with 965 doctors joining Victoria’s public health system this year alone – backed by Labor’s $203 million health workforce investment.
Since coming to government, Labor has grown the public health workforce by more than 50 per cent, adding over 40,000 nurses, midwives, doctors and hospital staff to our system.
All of this is backed by record funding, with more than $31 billion invested in Victoria’s health system this year, including a $9.3 billion boost for public hospitals to give them certainty and capacity to plan for the future.
Because only Labor is building the hospitals, training the staff, and delivering the care Victorian families rely on, closer to home.
