Free public transport

We’re delivering real savings for families, with free public transport for under-18s every day, and for seniors on weekends.
The Allan Labor Government is cutting the cost of living by making public transport free for the people who need it most, saving families hundreds of dollars every year.
Thanks to Labor, every Victorian under 18 can now travel free, every day, right across the public transport network.
For families, that’s a big saving. A yearly student pass currently costs $755 per child, meaning a family with three kids will save $2,265 a year, just on school and weekend travel.
Free public transport also means easier school runs, cheaper weekends, and one less bill for parents to worry about. Our new Youth myki gives children free travel on trains, trams, buses and V/Line services, no matter where they live.
Labor is also delivering free public transport on weekends, statewide, for seniors, carers and Disability Support Pensioners. Now, more than 650,000 seniors and almost 300,000 carers and disability pensioners are able to catch a train, tram or bus anywhere in Victoria for free on weekends.
These changes build on Labor’s regional fare cap – capping V/Line tickets everywhere in Victoria. This has already saved Victorians hundreds of millions of dollars and slashed the cost of long-distance travel. Now, whether it’s visiting family, getting to appointments, taking kids to sport, or enjoying a day out, public transport will cost less, or nothing at all.
The Allan Labor Government is putting money back in the pockets of Victorian families, making life easier and more affordable.
