Fixing potholes and improving local roads

Victorians deserve roads they can rely on. Labor will fix 500,000 potholes and put government back in charge.
Labor is doubling pothole repairs and put government back in charge of road maintenance, while improving major and local roads across Victoria.
We know too many roads aren’t good enough. Potholes can damage cars and make everyday trips dangerous.
Labor is repairing 500,000 potholes this year.
Crews have already repaired more than 100,000 potholes in the last few months. They’re also doubling the length of road getting major repairs to help stop new potholes forming.
That includes work on the Western, Calder and Princes highways, the Hume Freeway and Melbourne’s West Gate Freeway.
Labor will put government back in charge of road maintenance, so government takes responsibility for getting the work done.
We’ll also get supervised minimum-security prisoners to help with the job.
That means skilled road crews can spend more time fixing potholes.
We’ll give local teams more say over which repairs happen first, because they know the roads their communities use.
You’ll be able to report a road problem through one simple website and see what repairs are planned in your area and when.
We’ll set new standards that all road managers must meet, including government, councils and private operators. And we’ll make it easier to get compensation when they fail to maintain roads to those standards.
Labor believes every Victorian deserves safe roads, wherever they live. We’ll take responsibility for getting them fixed, so you can get home safely.
