Removing level crossings and upgrading roads

We’re giving Victorians the roads and rail they need to get where they're going, sooner.
Victorians want projects completed, less congestion, and time back in their day. That’s exactly what the Allan Labor Government is delivering.
We’re continuing to remove 110 dangerous level crossings, with 88 already gone for good.
This transformative project is cutting long boom-gate delays, reducing crashes and opening up space for new roads, parks and community infrastructure. It’s one of the biggest safety upgrades in Victoria’s history - and Labor is delivering it.
This year, two of the biggest transport projects in Victoria’s history opened – and they’re already changing lives.
The Metro Tunnel is open, doubling Melbourne’s underground rail network and unlocking more trains, more often, right across the system. New stations at Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac are connecting people to jobs, universities, hospitals and the city more quickly, while taking pressure off the City Loop. And thanks to our level crossing removals, services are more reliable and more frequent every day.
The West Gate Tunnel is giving families and freight a long-overdue alternative to the West Gate Bridge. Millions of trips have already been taken through the tunnels, saving drivers time and getting 9,000 trucks a day off local streets. That means quieter neighbourhoods, safer roads and faster trips, especially in Melbourne’s growing west.
We’re also investing $1 billion to fix and resurface regional roads across Victoria, delivering a major blitz to repair potholes, rebuild key routes and improve safety for the communities and industries that rely on them every day.
We’re building infrastructure that supports more homes and stronger communities. Projects like the Suburban Rail Loop are about planning for growth – connecting suburbs, creating new activity centres and supporting tens of thousands of homes near jobs, education and healthcare, so families can spend less time travelling and more time living. Our planning reforms are cutting red tape, and unlocking more homes for Victorians in the communities they want to live.
While the Liberals opposed these projects or said they’d never be built, Labor got on with the job – and we’re delivering.
