Cutting land tax to save families money

We’re cutting land tax, taking pressure off family budgets and helping more than 250,000 Victorians save up to $975 a year.
Labor knows families are working hard to get ahead. But with mortgage repayments and everyday bills putting pressure on household budgets, every dollar matters.
That’s why a re-elected Labor will cut land tax, with savings starting in our first Budget in 2027.
Labor will progressively restore the threshold from a land site value of $50,000 to $300,000 over six years.
Once fully implemented, more than 250,000 Victorians will no longer pay land tax, saving them up to $975 every year.
The relief will begin in 2027/28, when Labor will increase the threshold by $25,000. That will save 33,000 Victorians $500 in the first year, adding up to $3,000 over six years.
In 2028/29, another $25,000 increase will save an additional 27,000 Victorians $500 a year. We’ll keep lifting the threshold until it reaches $300,000.
Thanks to Labor, families already benefit from free kinder, free TAFE and free public transport for kids.
Cutting land tax will build on that support, delivering another permanent saving for household budgets.
Because Labor wants working people to keep more of what they earn, with lasting relief that helps families plan ahead.
