Building 25,000 homes for first home buyers

We’re helping more Victorians buy their first home, reserving 25,000 new homes for first home buyers.
Labor will build more than 25,000 houses, townhouses and apartments reserved for Victorian first home buyers.
Labor believes working people should have a fair chance to own a home. Somewhere to settle down, raise a family and build a future.
But for too many Victorians saving for a deposit, that dream feels further away.
That’s why a re-elected Labor Government will partner with the Commonwealth to build 25,600 new homes, giving first home buyers the first opportunity to buy.
These homes will be delivered in more than 20 locations across Victoria, including Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Latrobe. With houses, townhouses and apartments, there will be options to suit different households and stages of life.
The homes will be reserved for first home buyers for a period after completion.
Buyers will be able to register their interest through dedicated sales campaigns, with the first homes expected in 2027.
Labor’s $499 million investment will also deliver infrastructure to support new homes, including in regional Victoria. The homes will be sold at market prices.
This commitment is part of a broader pipeline of more than 66,700 new homes across Victoria, creating more opportunities for people to find a place of their own.
While the Liberals have promised to scrap Labor’s laws allowing more homes near train stations, Labor will get on with building the homes Victorians need.
Because Labor wants more Victorians to have the security of their own home, and the chance to plan their future with confidence.
