Making healthcare accessible and affordable

We’re making healthcare accessible and affordable for Victorian families, and investing in our frontline workforce.
Accessing healthcare shouldn’t mean long waits or huge out-of-pocket costs. The Allan Labor Government is making healthcare easier to access and more affordable for families, by putting care closer to home and backing our frontline workforce.
We’re cutting the cost and hassle of everyday healthcare by expanding care at the chemist.
Through our Chemist Care Now program, Victorians can get treatment for a growing list of common conditions – like school sores, UTIs, and contraception – without needing a GP appointment. Consultations are free, saving families time, money and unnecessary trips, while freeing up GPs to focus on more complex care.
Labor is hiring thousands more doctors, strengthening Victoria’s public health system and making it easier to get an appointment when you need one.
All of this is backed by record investment. Labor is delivering billions for hospitals, Urgent Care Clinics, and virtual care, giving Victorians more free options close to home and reducing pressure on emergency departments. From community pharmacies and Urgent Care Clinics to our world-first Virtual ED, care is becoming faster, simpler and more affordable.
For families living with ADHD, Labor is delivering game-changing reform. GPs will soon be able to diagnose and treat ADHD in both children and adults, following specialist training.
Right now, many families face waits of six to twelve months and assessment costs of $2,000 or more. These changes will slash wait times, cut costs, and help people get support sooner. We’re also making urgent ADHD prescription top-ups available through the free Virtual Emergency Department, so no one is left without medication because they couldn’t afford or access an appointment.
Because healthcare should work for families, not against them. Only Labor is making it easier and more affordable to get the care Victorians need.
