Revealed: Jess Wilson's Dodgy Costings Can Only Mean Cuts

05 November 2026

Jess Wilson’s Liberals can’t pay for their promises without savage cuts.

New analysis released today shows a $6.35 billion gap between what Jess Wilson says her promises will cost – and what her promises will actually cost.

The dodgy costings include:

• A $1.1 billion shortfall for their Donnybrook Road pledge.

• A $729.3 million shortfall for their Wimmera and Mallee rail pledge.

• A $883m shortall for their centrepiece health policy.

• A $400 million uncosted shortfall for their select entry schools’ pledge.

Alarmingly 31 promises have no price tag attached to them at all – keeping the costs hidden.

These blowouts are on top of the $40 billion they already need to cut to pay for their reckless target and revenue cuts.

A third of the Victorian budget is spent on healthcare, it is not possible to make cuts at this scale without cutting hospitals and nurses.

The independent Australia Institute found that 31,700 public sector workers must be sacked in order to reach the Liberals’ reckless cuts target.

Victorians deserve a government that respects their money – and that’s what Labor will deliver.

We have made billions in commonsense savings, stopped unnecessary government spending and we will cut land tax in our first Budget.

Quotes attributable to Treasurer Colin Brooks

“This is the most poorly costed and dodgy Liberal platform in Victorian history.”

“Independent economists have repeatedly warned that Jess will need to cut jobs, to pay for her plans.”

“Jess Wilson needs to be honest with Victorians - what will she cut to pay for her promises?”

Quotes attributable to Liberal Leader Jess Wilson when she was asked if Americanising our health system was a bad thing:

“Not at all”.
