Labor Will Create 5,000 New Manufacturing Jobs

04 November 2026

If we can make it here, we will.

We need a strong manufacturing sector to keep our economy growing.

That’s why a re-elected Carroll Labor Government will create 5,000 new manufacturing jobs across Victoria with a new Make It Here Fund.

Labor has always backed local manufacturing and we always will.

Victorians will never forget how the Liberals closed TAFEs and abandoned local manufacturing when they were last in power in Victoria and Canberra.

A Make It Here Fund to create 5,000 new jobs

Labor will create a new Make It Here Fund to back Victorian businesses to make more products locally and grow their Victorian operations.

Together, these investments will create 5,000 more manufacturing jobs.

The $350 million fund consists of $200 million for equity co-investment and $150 million for industry grants.

The equity co-investment component is fully funded through remaining uncommitted capital from Innovation Victoria, formerly Breakthrough Victoria.

As part of the grants program, government would seek $2 in private investment for every $1 of government funding.

The fund will focus on four key sectors:

• advanced manufacturing

• food and fibre

• health and medical research

• defence

These are the sectors that will drive Victoria’s manufacturing future.

Only Labor fights for working people

Victoria has a proud manufacturing history.

But the sector faced a blow the day Liberals dared GM to leave Australia.

Today, manufacturers still face rising costs, skills shortages and competition from overseas.

That’s why Labor will back them with a Make It Here Fund to create 5,000 new manufacturing jobs.

The alternative is a Liberal-One Nation Coalition is promising $40 billion in cuts.

The same Liberals who put padlocks on TAFEs the last time they were in power in Victoria.
