Labor Will Bring Critical Minerals Processing Home
Victoria is the only state that produces antimony, an in-demand critical mineral.
We’ve got the deposits, the discoveries and the expertise.
What we haven’t had is somewhere to process it – that’s done overseas.
A re-elected Carroll Labor Government will change that.
We’ll invest to deliver an antimony processing facility right here in Northern Victoria.
Australia’s first antimony processing facility
Labor will invest $20 million towards Australia’s first antimony processing facility.
The regional facility is expected to support around 200 construction jobs and 60 ongoing skilled jobs, with more work for local trades and suppliers.
Antimony is a critical mineral mined alongside gold.
It is used in solar panel glass, batteries, electronics and defence technology.
Victoria is Australia’s only antimony-producing state.
But its concentrate goes overseas for processing, taking jobs with it.
The new facility - open to Australian producers – will turn that concentrate into metal manufacturers can use, producing up to 5,000 tonnes a year.
Victoria already has antimony production at Costerfield, promising discoveries at Sunday Creek, and local processing expertise.
Now we’re ready to take the global race for critical minerals to the next level.
More opportunities for local producers
The Carroll Labor Government today announced Southern Cross Gold and Gekko Systems as successful recipients of the Advancing Antimony Grants program.
The regional companies will share more than $750,000 for studies into local antimony processing and supply chains.
Kilmore-based Southern Cross Gold is advancing its Sunday Creek gold and antimony project.
Ballarat-based Gekko Systems develops processing technology used around the world.
Regional Victorians will benefit
A re-elected Carroll Labor Government will introduce Royalties for the Regions.
It will reserve every dollar of mining royalties for regional roads, hospitals and schools.
Because the wealth beneath Victorian soil should support the communities above it.
The alternative is a Liberal-One Nation Coalition delivering Cuts for the Regions.
They’re committed to $40 billion in cuts.
Promising regional Victoria 25 per cent of your budget is meaningless if there's barely a budget left.
