Better, Safer Local Roads for the South East
A re-elected Carroll Labor Government will upgrade local roads across Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs.
We have listened to locals who are spending too long in traffic.
Better, safer local roads are our priority.
That’s why we’ll fund these important projects and get them underway as soon as possible.
Widening Hallam Road between Pound Road and Princes Highway in Hallam/Hampton Park
Hallam Road connects locals with the Princes Highway and South Gippsland Highway.
But the section between Pound Road and Princes Highway becomes a bottleneck – slowing people down and causing near-misses and crashes.
If re-elected, Labor will invest $350 million to duplicate this section of Hallam Rd to improve traffic flow and keep people moving.
The project will widen the road from two to four lanes and upgrade key intersections, including at Centre and Ogrady Road.
It will also deliver a cycling and walking path so pedestrians and cyclists can get around safely.
Widening Evans Road between Thompsons Road and Central Parkway in Cranbourne West
Evans Road runs through Cranbourne West, Lyndhurst and Lynbrook.
It gets congested throughout the day and causes delays.
If re-elected, Labor will invest $180 million to widen Evans Rd between Thompsons Road and Central Parkway.
The project will widen the road from one lane each way to up to three each way.
We will also improve key intersections and deliver a new cycling and walking path on both sides of the road to make it safer for everyone.
The upgrade builds on the Albanese and Carroll Labor Governments’ $30 million investment to duplicate the road further south, between Duff Street and Central Parkway.
Removing the Roundabout at the Governor Road and Boundary Road Intersection in Mordialloc/Braeside
The congested roundabout at Governor Road and Boundary Road has got to go.
If re-elected, Labor will invest $60 million to replace this roundabout with traffic lights, to get more people moving.
Planning for these upgrades would begin early next year and construction would start next term.
We can afford these projects because we have made commonsense decisions like:
• saving $2 billion on SRL
• saving $100 million on public service executive numbers.
What we’re doing right now
We are doubling the number of potholes filled this year, from 250,000 to 500,000.
Victorians know they can’t trust Liberals on roads. They cut funding from our roads the last time they were in power.
Under the Liberal-One Nation Coalition’s $40 billion cuts plan, they will do it again.
