A Bigger, Better Somerton Road for Melbourne's North
A re-elected Carroll Labor Government will upgrade Somerton Road so locals in Greenvale, Meadow Heights and Roxburgh Park can get around faster.
Somerton Road is a critical east to west corridor connecting communities across the north.
Locals rely on Somerton Road every day to get to work, school and to visit family.
More than 70 per cent of nearby residents travel to work by car.
As these suburbs grow, too many families spend precious time stuck in traffic.
That’s why a re-elected Labor Government will invest $494 million to upgrade Somerton Road.
We will upgrade 4 kilometres of road between Fleetwood Drive and Roxburgh Park Drive, widening it from two lanes to six.
This will mean more families can get around faster.
Three key intersections – Aitken Boulevard, Magnolia Boulevard and Roxburgh Park Drive – will be upgraded to improve safety and traffic flow.
The upgrade will also deliver a new walking and cycling path to create safer connections for everyone.
Final planning and procurement for the upgrades would begin from 2027 and construction will start next term.
We can afford these projects because we have made commonsense decisions like:
• saving $2 billion on the SRL
• saving $100 million on public service executive numbers.
We are also doubling the number of potholes filled this year, from 250,000 to 500,000.
Victorians know they can’t trust Liberals on roads. They cut funding from roads the last time they were in power.
Under the Liberal-One Nation Coalition’s $40 billion cuts plan, they will do it again.
