1 in 10 Health Workers Cut Under a Liberal-One Nation Government

28 October 2026

A Liberal-One Nation Government will cut $40 billion from the budget – starting with devastating cuts to our public hospitals.

The independent Australia Institute found that 31,700 public sector workers must be sacked in order to reach the Liberals’ reckless cuts target.

Now, new modelling reveals the impact of these cuts on our health system:

• More than 12,000 public hospital jobs cut, including more than 5,100 nurses

• More than 1,300 hospital beds closed

• An extra 72,000 patients waiting more than four hours in EDs each year

Liberal-One Nation cuts mean one in ten hospital workers gone.

Nurses, doctors, allied health workers, even cleaners – one in ten.

Cuts to nurses means fewer beds, longer wait times and patients missing out on care.

Cuts to public hospitals means more Victorians relying on expensive private hospitals, charging you up to $530 just to walk through the ED doors.

That’s what an Americanised health care system looks like.

Victoria can’t risk it.

Quotes attributable to Minister Paul Edbrooke

“Liberal-One Nation cuts will impact our health system the most, taking us down the path of Americanised health care.”

“That means health workers sacked, hospital beds closed and longer wait times.”

Quotes attributable to Liberal Leader Jess Wilson when she was asked if Americanising our health system was a bad thing:

“Not at all”.
